The reading is quite revealing about the quality of analyst forecasts. I enjoyed reading this.
Though the main question is - if we are not supposed to use analyst forecasting then what are we supposed to use? - I don’t quite buy the authors arguments that analyst should analyze the present and 'understand what that means for the future' <-- isn't this similar to forecasting? May be there is a slight difference, I will have to research in this a bit more.

L3 Curriculum with references to the original book
The CFA Curriculum contains extracts from various books. This page lists each reading the the corresponding book/chapter of the original source.
I use if I require a deeper understanding of a particular topic.

Started with Behavioral Finance
Over the last few days I have started with Behavioral Finance (Study Session 3). It is very interesting and it seems like quite an easy read as compared to what I had expected.
Moreover this study session (or at least till Study Session 10) I don't have to refer to any text from the previous two exams, other than the reference to Modern Portfolio Theory (Mean Variance) but not much. Additionally these reading's dont have any problem section at the end of the readings, I feel going through the problems take up the maximum amount of time and it also provides a very good reality check.
I still have to make a high level plan, providing a broad overview how I am supposed to cover all the study session and the order in which I am supposed to cover them. As of now the only thing in the plan is that I have to start with Study Session 1 by the 18th of April.

Really happy with a hack
I am really happy with a really small hack with respect to CFA, I unfortunately cannot talk much about it here.
I am really impressed with myself. I may blog about it elsewhere.

Using the CFA curriculum ebook
I ordered for the CFA online course material ebook (provided by VitalSource) while I registered for CFA Level 3.
I personally prefer to use the hard copy books for reading, and making my notes since it provides a visual sense of completing a reading. The main advantage of the ebook (and the reason that I got it) was that I can refer to all the reading material from any PC that I has an internet connection, and I can also search for terms across all the volumes - this I feel is quite useful, since many times (during Level 1 and Level 2 readings) while reading through a topic I feel that I have already read about related area in a different volume, I think the search facility is going to be really helpful here.
More details of the curriculum ebook (you will have to log in to access the 2nd link)

Failing Core Spring Certification
Finally attempted the Core Spring Certification today morning 09:30am, and in about 1hr 20mins time I failed.
I was really shocked since I really prepared for this exam and while I was answering the questions I knew that I didn't know all the answers but then I never expected to fail. I needed 80% or more to pass and I got 72%. I guess I correctly answered 36 out of the 50 questions.
My immediate reaction was to give the exam again but then thinking about what Sai (my ex manager) said, that I already have loads of technical certifications and getting one more technical certification isnt going help much. I feel that if I do give the exam gain it will be purely for getting the certificate and less about learning anything new. But then on the other hand I just cant give up on this certification since I failed.
In either case (if I want to attempt it again or not) I have a 30 day lock in period during which I cannot attempt the exam again. May be attempting the exam again isnt that good, since I will be spending the CFA L3 perpetration time on this certification.

Done setting up for today
I think I am done setting up the blog for today.
I may be adding a chat widget to the blog, but I am not sure how much that is going to really help.

Fixed Google Analytics
Had a read through the following post and fixed the google analytics issue.
Here is what I had to do
1. Google Analytics Dashboard, select 'Edit' for the site that you want to fix.
2. On the top right click on 'Check Status'. The status then goes to 'Waiting for Data' .... I guess it should work now.

Adding more stuff to the blog

Also thinking of setting up mobile blogging, since I think I will be adding most of my thoughts, ideas, plans using my phone.
Currently looking to making the posting area a bit wider.
I better also look into making the plan today......

Registering for CFA L3
It took me a while to decide if I wanted to register for L3 2010 or give it for 2011.
Actually I was scared, but then I thought I might as well get it done for 2010 rather than pushing it out one more year.
Finally registered on Monday 23rd Nov
